By nature, women are nurturers and care-takers. If someone within a 50 mile radius has a problem, a woman will try to help them! WAHMs are no exception. In fact, for many WAHMS, that is what the majority of their jobs consist of. They spend their days caught up in a whirlwind of taking care of their families, housework and working their businesses. However, a WAHM can easily forget to take care of herself!
You should take care of yourself physically as well as mentally, because if you’re tired or sick you won’t be able to focus and think clearly. One thing I do and try to do it on a daily basis is exercise. You may think you don’t have time to run to a gym or even exercise at home with children around. But I usually have two 3-year-olds and a 4-year-old with me everyday and I can actually exercise for at least 20 to 30 minutes.
If I get up early enough I can exercise before they are awake, but since I am a night owl, it’s not always easy. So I usually keep them occupied with a special preschool project and exercise with a dvd and then I exercise with them! There are actually some great mom and child exercise dvds out there, try the library for options. My children love doing yoga with me, it’s fantastic! I would recommend Yoga for the Kid in All of Us
with Chaz Rough, if you have children from ages 2 to around 6 years old. It’s so much fun.
Okay, so now that you got your workout, sneak in a shower while the children nap. Yes, you work from home, and you may be able to conduct your business wearing your pajamas, but that doesn’t mean you should. Although, some women dress up and put on their makeup because they are surrounded by potential clients, others do it despite they may be staying inside for the day.
WAHMs often put on makeup and dress up because it makes us feel good, to show ourselves and others on the outside how good we feel on the outside. When you look in the mirror and see a professional woman and not just a frumpy mommy looking back at you, you will feel more confident and more competent in all areas of your life, including your business!
Now, it doesn’t mean you don’t have to wear a business suit either, but try to aim for something in the middle of the two choices. A simple shirt under a cardigan sweater and some nice jeans or slacks will do the trick. Ever watch What Not to Wear? They have lots of options for moms.
If you simply do not have the time to wash and blow-dry your hair, put your hair in some Velcro rollers or up while you get breakfast ready. They will add body and style to your hair. Take five minutes to at lut on some mascara and lip gloss; and don’t forget to add a spritz of perfume or body spray.
If the last time you bought yourself a new outfit has been so long the clothes you are wearing are coming back in style for the second time around, that is a clue you need to update your wardrobe!
When you accomplish a goal, celebrate by getting a manicure, pedicure or even a massage. Keep your hairstyle fresh by getting a trim every few months. You may be a WAHM but you are still a woman! You deserve to feel special and happy!
